Mary Silveira Elementary is a school that prides itself on not only providing all students the finest education, but also ensuring their well-being and safety. This school year we have a number of students with food allergies some with potentially life-threatening peanut allergies. While some children may experience a stuffy nose and watery eyes, other children develop more severe reactions. In the most severe cases, anaphylactic shock can occur within seconds of coming into contact with the nut product. Several of our children have strict guidelines in place to prevent these severe allergic reactions.

This is where we need your support. We are asking for your help this year to provide all of our children with a safe school environment by considering not sending any peanut or nut containing products to school with your child.

On the school side, we continue to educate and remind our students that we do not share food and they have been responding well. Our school nurse has met with our teachers and instructional yard duty personnel to educate and support. We are very fortunate that our School Lunch program, Choice Lunch, is completely Nut Free. We thank you in advance for your understanding and consideration in helping us maintain a safe and healthy environment for all of our students.
